Smashing and Swinging in to Fundraising Action

Pruce Newman Pipework smashes charity fundraising target

Pruce Newman Pipework has become the latest company to achieve the impressive feat of fulfilling its nook business network pledge.

The nook business network exists to support EACH’s nook appeal. It sees companies committing to raise either £10,000, £15,000 or £25,000 in exchange for various benefits and support.

Pruce Newman signed up to raise £10,000 in March 2017, but has in fact raised 150% of its target and recently presented EACH with a cheque for £15,000.

It raised that fantastic amount by taking part in and supporting a variety of fun activities, including last year’s Barnard Charity Golf Day at Bawburgh Golf Club, EACH’s Norwich abseil and nook ball, and Pruce Newman’s own endurance go-karting event.

Those efforts were boosted by office collections, bake sales and a Christmas jumper day, and culminated in Managing Director Graham Newman running the London Marathon in April – raising £6,000 in the process.

Graham said: “Pruce Newman are long-time supporters of EACH, as well as other local and regional charities. Over the last year we’ve made the decision to focus our fundraising entirely on EACH and I’m delighted with the contribution we’ve been able to make to the nook appeal.

“We couldn’t have achieved this without the backing of our staff, suppliers and customers, all of whom have been great sports and responded to every challenge we could conceive. They have freely donated their time, resources and money to our campaign, and I’d like to thank all of them for their incredible support and generosity.”

The nook appeal is a campaign to raise £10 million so that EACH can transform children’s palliative care for Norfolk, mainly by building a new hospice just south of Norwich in Framingham Earl.

Sophie Mayes, EACH Norfolk Corporate Fundraiser, said: “Pruce Newman Pipework took so well to fulfilling their nook business network pledge and clearly had a lot of fun! The final amount raised is absolutely brilliant and we couldn’t be more grateful.

“Building of the nook started in November when the appeal hit £7 million. We’re now nearly at £8 million and it’s vital we continue receiving support from the Norfolk business community in the final stretch.”

Pruce Newman is a pipework and steelwork fabrication and installation company based in Wymondham. Established in 1970, the second-generation family business employs 140 people in the East of England and provides services to some of the region’s biggest companies in the oil and gas, energy, food processing and chemical sectors. It is one of 43 nook business network members.

Swaffham Golf Club collects £1,494 as it tees off year of support for children’s charity

Swaffham Golf Club fundraise for EACH

Golfers are swinging into action for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) after the charity was jointly selected by the men’s and ladies’ captains of Swaffham Golf Club as their charity of the year.

Members have already taken part in a weekend of activities to raise money. Organised by Ralph Rix, Andy Palmer and Ian Lake, the event also drew players from as far as Kent.

It included a standard 18-hole tournament and a Beat the Pro competition, that saw men’s captain Brian Fenn manage the feat. A raffle, Masters Tournament sweepstake and more saw a fantastic £1,494 collected, some to benefit the golf club’s trainee professional Nic Cains.

Tina Burdett, EACH West Norfolk Regional Fundraiser, said: “Swaffham Golf Club’s certainly had a fantastic start to its fundraising! We’re delighted to have been selected as charity of the year by Brian and Amanda [Bloomfield, ladies’ captain], and look forward to working with members.

“All money raised will help us continue providing care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, and supporting their families.”

EACH has to raise £5,600 a day to sustain its vital service in Norfolk. For more information go to www.each.org.uk.
