Ready, Steady, Nook! EACH receives £2,554 from police raffle and bake sale

Norfolk Constabulary has given £2,554 to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) after a bumper raffle and bake sale.

The success of the raffle was in part due to prize donations from generous businesses and police officers. Some of the more glitzy included a fifth-generation iPad, an overnight stay for two at Park Farm Hotel in Hethersett and a four-course dinner for two at Benedicts Restaurant in Norwich.

The fundraising drive – named Ready, Steady, Nook as money collected has been put specifically towards EACH’s nook appeal – was rubber-stamped in traditional fashion, with the presentation of a giant novelty cheque.

Representing the police force were PC Jim Squires and PC Bex Cook, their children Asha and Soul, and PC Roger Benton, all of whom have been supported by EACH. Chief Constable Simon Bailey joined them.

He said: “It gives me great pride that officers and staff of Norfolk Constabulary raised this amount for such a worthwhile cause. I’ve seen first-hand from officers and their families the crucial help and respite EACH gives.”

Ellen Worsley, EACH Norfolk Assistant Corporate Fundraiser, who received the giant cheque, said: “We’re really grateful to Norfolk Constabulary for the money they’ve raised so far and look forward to continuing our relationship. I know their next fundraiser, the emergency services carol service at Norwich Cathedral in December, promises to be really special.”

PC Benton will be taking part in EACH’s epic 200-plus mile Ride for Life over three days between Friday, 20th and Sunday, 22nd July. The bike ride starts and finishes in Snetterton, visiting EACH’s three hospices – The Treehouse in Ipswich, Milton just north of Cambridge and Quidenham – in between.

For more information on the event and how to join PC Benton visit www.each.org.uk/rideforlife or contact Emma Benstead, EACH Norfolk Events Fundraiser, on 01953 666770. Registration closes on Wednesday, 20 June.
