‘Man of Norfolk’ to open new North Walsham charity shop

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is thrilled to announce that local author, broadcaster and entertainer, Keith Skipper will officially open the charity’s new shop in North Walsham.

EACH will open the doors to their new store at The Terrace, Market Place in the town on Thursday 12th April, with Keith attending to officially cut the ribbon at 10am.

The new shop will be the charity’s 13th shop in Norfolk and 31st overall, offering the full range of goods customers are used to. Proceeds will help fund the care and support of children and young people with life-threatening conditions and their families.

Sandy Creasy, EACH Shop Manager, said: “We’re so pleased to be opening our new shop in North Walsham and very much looking forward to becoming part of the community. It’s fantastic Keith Skipper will be joining us as guest of honour.

“EACH is known for having well-presented shops with a range of stock, great staff and volunteers – and there will be no exception here! Please do come along to celebrate our opening and see what bargains you can find.”

Keith Skipper is one of Norfolk’s most ardent champions. He fights constantly to prevent the county “from becoming a boring photocopy of everywhere else.” The Cromer-based writer, broadcaster and entertainer has enjoyed a varied career as a sports journalist across the county working for the Eastern Evening News, the Eastern Daily Press and BBC Radio Norfolk before pursuing a freelance career.

Keith has written 40 books starring his native county and produced a series of DVDs and CDs featuring memorable characters met along the way. He still pens a weekly column for the Eastern Daily Press.

The shop Keith opens in North Walsham, will trade six days a week from Monday to Saturday.

EACH is after donations of the following clean and good-quality goods to sell: clothing, bric-a-brac, modern paperbacks, toys, jewellery, DVDs/CDs, household linens, retro and vintage clothes and small electrical items. These can be dropped off at the new shop now.

The charity also needs donations of good-quality furniture and can collect it free of charge if you are unable to transport it yourself. Contact 01223 800 800 selecting option 6 for Retail for more information.

To put into context the difference just a small donation to a shop can make to the vital work EACH does, here are some examples of what your donation could pay for:

– A top, skirt or pair of trousers worth £5 could pay for art supplies for a session of art therapy

– A tea set worth £10 could go towards a nursing care kit

– A nice wedding hat or jacket worth £20 could help pay for a support group for siblings

– An item of good-quality furniture or prom dress worth £35 could pay for an hour of specialist care.

In the past financial year EACH shops generated an impressive profit of over £900,000, that all goes towards helping families make the most of their precious time together.

Anyone interested in more information on volunteering at the new shop can attend a Volunteer Information Day, Thursday 5th April, 10am to 4pm at EACH, The Terrace, Market Place, North Walsham. Alternatively contact Sarah Throssell by emailing sarah.throssell@each.org.uk or call 07540 335680.
