Friends epic run around Norfolk in memory of Freya

Freya BarlowA group of 27 friends are preparing for an epic relay run around the whole of Norfolk in memory of an inspiring 22-year-old who set up a trust for fellow sufferers of leukaemia before she passed away. She found out she was terminal having gone in to remission twice before just after completing a charity 10k run.

Freya Barlow, a trainee doctor from Feltwell, raised more than £10,000 in the final year of her life to help people suffering from cancer – and set up a charitable trust before her death in January 2014. The Trust aims to support sufferers of leukaemia after Freya wanted to address the gap in physcological care she felt existed for those who were neither part of child or teenage cancer trusts nor elderly who may find it easier to cope with.

Freya BarlowInspired by her fundraising, a host of Freya’s friends have joined forces to take on a ‘Round Norfolk Relay’ on Good Friday to raise money for the Freya Barlow Trust. The 200 Mile route will take runners to all corners of the Norfolk boundary, from Cromer to Great Yarmouth, Thetford to Hunstanton – and everywhere in between on beaches, coastal paths tracks and roads, day and night.

The group have already surpassed the initial target of £3,000 and are now hoping to raise £12,000 by running 200 miles around the borders of Norfolk in just over 24 hours.  Freya was so modest and kind, but you never knew how hard-working and determined she was to do well in all things academic, arty and sporty until you spent time with her. We just want to continue her legacy  and help a little bit.

We are delighted with how it has gone so far and we would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported our relay run.

The run starts and finishes at Cromer Hall, from 5am on Good Friday, with members of the group running non-stop, day and night, around Norfolk – including Great Yarmouth, Thetford, Kings Lynn and Hunstanton.
