Visit to “Amelia Bowman presents”….art exhibition

We were very pleased to be invited to attend a private viewing of “Amelia Bowman presents…” – an art exhibition taking place at Wymondham Art Centre, featuring the work of Amelia Bowman, Gavin Robbie, Janet Bowman and Ella Goodwin.

On the opening evening of this art exhibition theWymondham Art Centre thronged with art-lovers admiring the work of this prominent group of South Norfolk based artists. Indeed, it was so popular it was hard for me to snap some pictures! Nonetheless, I hope this small selection of photos below will give you an insight in to the work on display. I’m not an art critic, so I’ll keep my comments simple!

The Wymondham Art Centre (below) was a perfect venue for the exhibition – itself a work of architectural art, and a good spacious hosting space.

I told you it was busy (below)

We told you it was busy!

Being a big fan of Hippo’s, I was chuffed to see a mini-hippo sculpture amongst Janet’s work. Hanging behind this table of sculptures there a couple of Amelia’s pictures (far left) and some of Ella’s work.

I think there may be Japenese influences in some of Ella’s work. And cats. Definitely a cat influence! I liked this tattooed cat picture (below.)

Ella Goodwin

Picture below gives an insight in to Amelia’s collagraph print methods, and some of Ella’s hand-made dolls.

Gavin’s photography draws upon the rich stunning scenery that Norfolk has to offer (see next two pictures).

I’d like to say it was deliberate to frame Amelia’s reflection in one of her pictures (on the right) but it was accidental!

Thank you to Amelia, Gavin, Ella and Janet for inviting us along to this exhibition.

Readers – Why not pop along to see this art exhibition – hopefully you’ll enjoy and appreciate it as much as we did.

  1. I love this venue, exhibitions are varied and change regularly. Entry is free but a donation is greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed this collaboration of different artists and mediums within the same atmospheric and historic environment. I am familiar with the work of local artist Amelia Bowman. Her bold patterns and unique prints portray many local scenes. The techniques she uses are complicated and she has included an informative breakdown of the processes followed as part of the exhibition.

It was the first time I had entered the mind of Ella Goodwin via her beautiful fantasy illustrations, mainly including cats as the subject matter. The images made me smile. Like Amelia, Gavin’s photographic records are mainly inspired by Norfolk and Suffolk, they are stunning. Janet’s sculptures were boldly cast out of bronze and reflect a variety of different birds and animals.
