Norfolk Lord’s Taverners Celebrity Cricket 25 May 2014

This was a 35 over match played in the most convivial spirit at the splendid atmosphere of the Lower Close by Norwich Cathedral.

The Black Sheep who are team of experienced, Norfolk cricketers who over the last 25 years have raised over £70,000 for disadvantaged children in Norfolk were playing The Sheppards Flock CC. The latter team consisted of Celebrity Chef Galton Blackiston, former professional Norwich City Footballers Craig Fleming and Paul Mcveigh, Tv’s Kevin Piper,Jonathan Wills and Tim Sheppard who was Physio for NCFC for 20 years. The Flock were ably supported by Lord Richard Dannatt whose son Olly substituted for him on the day.

The Black Sheep batted first and scored 187, restricted to a degree by some admirable bowling from Jonathan Wills, Ben Balfour, our local well renowned Photographer, and Kevin Piper and a fantastic catch from Galton Blackiston.

The reply was admirable but never really threatened despite some useful knocks from Tom Marshall, Ben Balfour, Kevin Piper and Paul Mcveigh, the innings closed on 169 all out but the winner on the day was the money raised for such a good cause – almost £2000. We were all extremely grateful to the Headmaster of Norwich School, Rod Bunting and Chris the most capable Groundsman who all made the event go so well.
