Ben Du Brow to open new EACH shop in Poringland
Guests at the opening of the new East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) shop in Poringland will be joined by chartered surveyor Ben Du Brow.
Ben was one of three vendors of the land EACH bought to build its new Norfolk children’s hospice – and he very generously donated all his share back to the nook appeal.
EACH’s shop in Poringland is on the doorstep of its new hospice site and will open at 10am Thursday 12th July.
Ben said: “I was made aware of the work of EACH some years ago and my wife, Jane, and I have been firm supporters ever since. I’m honoured to have been asked to perform the ribbon-cutting and feel sure the shop will receive very generous support from the community.”
Ben spent years with Norwich Union until the early ‘90s. More recently, amongst many other projects, he was responsible for a national, award-winning scheme that converted a group of redundant farm buildings built by his ancestors in Framingham Pigot. The development provides 30,000 sq ft of prestigious office accommodation, together with a restaurant, function suite and very popular boutique hotel.
EACH’s new shop is next door to Budgens, in Overtons Way, and will offer a range of high-quality goods, helping to fund the care and support of children and young people with life-threatening conditions and their families.
Maria Hall, EACH Shop Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our new shop so close to the nook, giving us the best possible opportunity to help raise money for and awareness of EACH across the area. We’re equally thrilled that Ben Du Brow will be joining us on opening morning.
“EACH is known for having shops that really become part of their communities, with a range of well-presented stock, staff and volunteers – and we intend on things being the same here! Please come along to help us celebrate opening and see what bargains you can find.”
EACH opened five shops across the region last year. It has already opened three in Norfolk, one in Suffolk, one in Cambridgeshire and one in Essex so far in 2018. This latest shop in Poringland, to trade six days a week from Monday to Saturday, will be its 33rd overall.
It would be pleased to receive donations of the following clean and good-quality goods to sell: clothing, bric-a-brac, modern paperbacks, toys, jewellery, DVDs/CDs, household linens, retro and vintage clothes and small electrical items. These can be dropped off now.
EACH also needs donations of good-quality furniture and can collect it free of charge if you are unable to transport it yourself. Contact the charity’s Retail Distribution Centre on 01842 821620 for more information.
To put into context the difference just a small donation to the shop can make to the vital work EACH does, here are some examples of what your donation could pay for:
– A top, skirt or pair of trousers worth £5 could pay for art supplies for a session of art therapy
– A tea set worth £10 could fund a nursing care kit
– A nice wedding hat or jacket worth £20 could pay for a support group for siblings
– An item of good-quality furniture or prom dress worth £35 could pay for an hour of specialist care.
In the past financial year EACH shops generated an impressive profit of over £900,000, that all goes towards helping families make the most of their precious time together.

Pelé, Banks and Kluivert merchandise up for grabs
The World Cup is in full flow and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is hoping to score a big fundraising boost by auctioning merchandise signed by Pelé, Gordon Banks and Patrick Kluivert.
EACH has a photo of Brazil’s and arguably the world’s greatest ever player wearing his famous number 10 jersey, signed by the man himself. Pelé was named FIFA co-Player of the Century in 1999 and remains the only footballer to win three World Cups, in 1958, ’62 and ’70. He is now a global ambassador for football and a range of humanitarian causes.
Among teams beaten by Pelé’s Brazil in 1970 were England. It was a classic encounter in which Gordon Banks pulled off a stunning save from a perfect Pelé header – and EACH also has a photo of that moment, signed by Banks, available to bid on.
In addition, the charity has a yellow England goalkeeper shirt signed by Banks, who spent most of his club career with Leicester City and Stoke City.
The fourth and final item EACH has on offer is a Barcelona shirt signed by Patrick Kluivert. Kluivert is a former Dutch player who scored 123 goals in 259 appearances for the Catalan giants. He also had a spell in the Premier League with Newcastle United.
