Binham Priory
Place Categories: Heritage Historic Site Things to See and Do
St Mary’s Priory, Binham, or Binham Priory, is a ruined Benedictine priory located in the village of Binham in the English county of Norfolk.
The remains of the priory are in the care of English Heritage. The priory was founded in the late 11th century, as a dependent house of St Albans Abbey, by Peter de Valognes and his wife Albreda.
The nave of the priory church, with its 13th century west front and tiers of Norman arches, is now the parish church, and displays the former rood screen with medieval saints over-painted with Protestant texts. The extensive ruins beyond emphasise the original size of the monastery.
