The sun shone and Norwich was alive with trail maps and people following their app to find the GoGoHare sculptures around Norfolk for eleven weeks.
With 50 hare sculptures in the city and 18 in the county the feedback has been that many people have loved the variety of art styles, and had great family time ticking off the sculptures, whilst enjoying fresh air and visiting places for the first time.
Norfolk children’s charity Break in partnership with Wild in Art have organised the GoGoHares sculpture trail bringing fun, education and creativity to Norfolk throughout the summer of 2018. There have also been 164 leverets around the county as part of the learning programme called GoGoCreate.
The app has seen over 180,000 hares be unlocked over the summer proving to be one of the most popular GoGo trails to date.
The trails have been free to do throughout the 11 weeks and there have had associated activities around the event for children and adults which have also been well attended during the summer.
The sculptures have all been collected now and taken back to Break where they will be getting hare care and some a repair before you see them again for one last time.
If you are really missing the hares then there is good news –the following hares can be seen until 6th October when they move to the Forum event:
- Wymondham are keeping their hare out in the town as it is part of an app called ‘Wym Trails’ that engages with people on an interactive experience finding out about the towns history.
- Pablo the raffle hare will stay in intu Chapelfield and you can buy a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win this hare for £10 with all money going to the supporting charity Break.
Martin Green, Project Manager said ‘It is incredible how quickly the 11 weeks goes and it has been a delight to see so many people enjoying the trails around Norfolk. It won’t be long before people can see them one last time and we look forward them lighting up people’s faces when they enter the parade of hares in October. We thank all the volunteers, sponsors and artists for helping make this happen and hope to see you at the GoGoCreate Lever’ART exhibition in the meantime’.
People have understandably taken to social media to let the team know how they feel and there are so many amazing comments of support to the charity, Break for making the summer of 2018 so memorable.
Meanwhile, until September 23 you can visit the Undercroft Gallery at the back of Norwich Market, to see all 164 leverets in one location. Open daily 12 – 5 (Sunday 12 – 3).
The hares all come back for one last time on 7 – 10 October at an event called Hare Today Gone Tomorrow located outside the Forum, in a marquee which is a ticketed event for £2.50 per person or £10 for a family up to 5 people (under3’s are free). Tickets are bookable via the VisitNorwich Website.
At the end of this event there is an evening auction on 11 October in partnership with TW Gaze with special guest Jake Humphrey who is the patron of Break. During this auction 50 city hares will be up for grabs to the highest bidder. Tickets can be booked via our website gogohares.co.uk.
The money raised by the GoGoHares trail will help fund the vital work carried out by Break’s Moving on Team, supporting vulnerable young people to live independently after leaving the care system.
The Moving on team guide, and support young care leavers when they leave the formal care system at just 18, or even earlier. This could be the simple things we take for granted like teaching young people to cook, pay bills, live independently and continue in education or training. The Moving on Team are the extended family for these young people and support them in the next stage of their lives and beyond.
