EACH Nook fundraising progress

Cromer to Norwich walk raises £1,200 for the nook appeal

A group of Plastic Building Supplies (PBS) colleagues and friends have walked from Cromer Pier to PBS in Norwich to raise £1,200 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), specifically the charity’s nook appeal.

They were joined on the 25-mile (40km) walk by Grant Peruzzi from DMD Installations.

PBS is celebrating its 30th year in business and continues to show fantastic support of EACH, that cares for children with life-threatening conditions across the region and supports their families.

The specialist supplier of PVCu building materials, with branches in Norwich, King’s Lynn, Gorleston-on-Sea and Thetford, had raised more than £12,000 for the nook appeal before the Cromer to Norwich walk and over £66,000 for EACH generally.

Shaun Brookes, PBS Sales Coordinator, said: “We’re pleased to have exceeded our £1,000 target by raising £1,200 for EACH. It felt great to complete the 10-hour walk, that was almost as far as a marathon! A few blisters and bumps were had along the way, but it was worth it to support such a wonderful charity.”

Sophie Mayes, EACH Norfolk Corporate Fundraiser, said: “Another big thank you to PBS for arranging this sponsored walk. Backing from this organisation over the years has been hugely beneficial and we’re delighted at the continued support.

“The nook appeal now stands at over £8 million and building of the nook is well under way, so the continued support of Norfolk’s business community is vital as we aim to raise the final funds before the new hospice is hopefully opened in summer next year.”

PBS will be raising more money for the nook appeal at its 30th anniversary dinner in October, to be attended by 160 to 200 members of staff, suppliers and customers.

Rogers and Norton and Loveday and Partners

Rogers & Norton boosts EACH’s nook appeal by over £6,000

A Norfolk law firm has given £6,295.50 to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), specifically the charity’s nook appeal, following a footgolf tournament and the efforts of staff in the Run Norwich 10k.

Rogers & Norton held its second annual footgolf competition, at Norwich’s Eaton Park, in June. Twenty-one teams, totalling 84 individuals, took part, facing competition from the likes of former Norwich City players Darren Huckerby and Paul McVeigh. Fundraising was boosted by an auction of merchandise, including items signed by goalkeeper John Ruddy and Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton. The event netted £4,883.50.

A team of Rogers & Norton staff also took part in the Run Norwich 10k in August, raising £1,412 between them.

The company has been fundraising having signed up to the nook business network. The network exists to support the nook appeal and sees companies committing to raise either £10,000, £15,000 or £25,000 in exchange for various benefits and support.

Sophie Mayes, EACH Norfolk Corporate Fundraiser, said: “It was clearly a very active summer for everyone at Rogers & Norton and the total amount they’ve raised for us now stands at an amazing £16,630. Help in raising funds like this is vital as the nook appeal continues.”

The nook appeal currently stands at over £8 million. Construction of EACH’s new hospice started at the end of last year and, fundraising-permitting, it is hoped the building will be operational by summer 2019.

Alistair Wallace and family

EACH receives over £2,000 following Norfolk trio’s Land’s End to John O’ Groats bike ride

Three Norfolk friends who completed a cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’ Groats have now given £2,145 to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), specifically the charity’s nook appeal.

Alistair Wallace, from Elsing, James Walsgrove, from Easton, and Rob Claxton, from Toftwood, pedalled the 900-plus miles in memory of Simon Williams, son of the late Anglian Windows founder George, who died in June from a short illness and subsequent heart failure.

Alistair, who owns A&M Motors in Lenwade, said: “I mentioned my ride to Simon in my last conversation with him and he laughed saying ‘What? On one of those things without engines?’

“Simon’s mum was keen for EACH to be supported and I’d love to do more in the future to help. Seeing the plans for the nook has really brought home to me just how big an undertaking caring for all the children and their families is. I didn’t realise how involved and far-reaching the charity was.”

Tim Jenkins, EACH Norfolk Community Fundraiser, said: “This was a fantastic effort by Alistair, James and Rob, and a great way to honour Simon’s memory. We’re obviously really pleased to have been the beneficiary, with the final stretch of the nook appeal approaching. All contributions from individuals and groups in the community are very welcome as we aim to raise the final £1.3 million or so.”

The bike ride was chronicled by James in a blog on his website, www.rideharder.co.uk.

The Nook

The nook appeal reaches £8,278,000

The nook appeal has now reached £8,278,000 as fundraising to build a new Norfolk children’s hospice continues.

A big supporter of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), particularly since it launched the nook appeal in November 2014, has been Ben Du Brow. Ben was one of three vendors of the land EACH bought for its new building – and he generously donated all his share back to the appeal.

Ben spent years with Norwich Union until the early ‘90s. More recently, amongst many other projects, he was responsible for a national, award-winning scheme that converted a group of redundant farm buildings built by his ancestors in Framingham Pigot. The development provides 30,000 sq ft of prestigious office accommodation together with a restaurant, function suite and very popular boutique hotel.

Ben recently opened EACH’s new Poringland shop, on the doorstep of the charity’s new hospice site, when he said: “I was made aware of the work of EACH some years ago and my wife, Jane, and I have been firm supporters ever since.”

Hannah Bloom, Capital Appeal Project Lead for the nook, said: “The support of people like Ben gave us the foundations for a strong start to the appeal. We’ve since received great backing from individuals and businesses to community groups and foundations alike, and now need their continued support in this final stretch.

“The build itself is progressing well, with the timber having been put onto the flat roof of the building and the zinc going on top. Good news is the recent rainfall proved this part of the building is now waterproof. All the blockwork is completed and a lot of the scaffolding is down.”
